After writing your goal, what next? How do you achieve this goal? Just writing the goal is not enough to achieve it. You need create a list of activities that will help you to achieve this goal. Having a to-do list helps to highlight the activities required to achieve a set goal. For example:  Your goal for the day is to do your assignments, complete your house chores and run errands for your parents. This seems like a lot to do but if you work with a to-do list, it is achievable.

You need to list in order what you need to do, so you can know if you have made progress or not. Your to-do list would look like:

My to-do list
Do maths assignment
♦ Complete English essay
♦ Wash my clothes
♦ Wash the dishes
♦ Sweep the room
♦ Drop clothes for grandma
♦ Read for 1 hour

From the to-do list you would realize the tasks looks less and its more precise and specific to work with

  • Know your limit

Do not overwhelm yourself with too much task at a time; as you would get tired merely thinking of what you have to do and eventually not do anything. For example, your goal is to read for 1 hour and then you take your biology, chemistry and physics books altogether to read in one hour.  You would end up being tired and confused on what to read and not achieve anything.

  •  Use the SMART model

The SMART model works all the time, even in the business and corporate world

  • S- Specific
  • M-Measurable
  • A-Achievable
  • R-Realistic
  • T-Time-bound

When you want to write your goals, consider this and you would get your goals right.

  • Celebrate your small victories

Sometimes, things happen and you might not finish your to-do list, or achieve your goal of being the best in class, or increasing your grades in class as much as you wanted.  Don’t pull yourself down every as every improvement you make matters.   Just make sure you never give up and keep working to achieve your goal.
