Mrs. Adeola Okuneye Williams is the general manager and the chief executive of Corporate Citizens Insurance Brokers Limited. She is the first daughter of her parents, Chief & Mrs. I.A. Senboye. She had her primary school education at Princess Girls Primary School, Abule Oja, Yaba, and attended Methodist Girls’ High School, Yaba where she had her Ordinary Levels and Advanced Level certificate. She then proceeded to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Yaba in 1984 and got a Bachelor of Science Degree in Insurance in 1987. Her education aspiration knew no limit due to impact and encouragement she got from her father, she says “right from my primary to my secondary education level, I always took the first position in the class and this has been as a result of hard work and diligence. I never for once attended a private lesson nor attended a coaching centre for extra lessons, it was my father that took it upon himself to teach his children, he never believed in those private lessons, so I was not used to them and since he was once a teacher before working in the Ministry of Works as an Accountant.”
Her eagerness for knowledge has drawn her professional qualifications through the inspiration she got from her father being her role model and her primary mentor, she says “although along the line, I got to have other mentors which I call the secondary mentors, these people made me believe in myself so well and made me know that I could make it, one of such people was Mr. Biyi Otesheye, MD, Regency Insurance Company Limited, I looked unto my dad because he believed in diligence, and excellence and achieving result.” For Mrs. Williams, it wasn’t so rosy ‘cos it was difficult for her to keep up with the excellence spirit instilled on her by her father, but through the motivation of a driving force which says “anything worth doing at all is worth doing well”, and this has been her mission statement. Mrs. Williams has a MBA (Mgmt) in year 2000 at the Delta State University, Abraka.
Her advice to the young upcoming generation is that, there is a bright future ahead of them and they have available opportunity to excel in this career (insurance) if chosen. The industry is growing and becoming more dynamic. She is enthusiastic that in the future, insurance will assume its rightful place in the scheme of things in the nation. She also believes that the prospects of someone who goes into insurance, as a career is very bright as he/she is lucky to work in insurance company affiliated with banks or oil companies, etc. for those aspiring to read insurance in the University/Poly-technique, she advises that you make the sky your limit, never look back, fight judiciously in order to have a good grade and make sure you take the professional examination at the professional body in Nigeria. Her plans for the young people aspiring to go for the course is to give a helping hand after the completion of their HND (Insurance)/BSc (Insurance) by assisting them get places for their Industrial Attachment in order for them to know more and get more exposed to the working world. She believes that through this they will inspire more and not relent their efforts.
Mrs. Williams is happily married to Mr. Williams, a Civil Engineer and they have children, she also has the following degrees: ACII, AIIN, ACIB, and a cognate experience of over 16 years in insurance and has been a one-time Manager, Koguna Babura & Company (Insurance Brokers) from 1987 – 1993. She is presently the Managing Director/CEO in her present place of work.
For Mrs. Williams, being a Chief Executive has never in any way affected her marital life and has being an avenue to prove to people that a lady can also run the race and finish it well.
