Youths representing universities and various youth focused NGOs convened at the National Youth Service Corps Camp, Abuja to participate in the first ECOWAS Youth Forum /Training Workshop. The theme of the forum was “preparing Youth for 21st Century: ECOWAS Region and the Way Ahead .”
The forum was organized by the High World International Organization, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Economic Community of West African States, and the United Nations Drug Control program, and AHI was represented by Miss Abimbola Okunola, Assistant Program Manager and Miss Adeola Olunloyo Health Services Youth Assistant.
As part of the Day’s activities, the participants looked into the health, social and economic consequences of early childbearing. The health consequences according to the students include: contracting sexually transmitted diseases and having prolonged labor which eventually leads to VVF or RVF. The social consequences are rejection by family and friends and having low self-esteem, while the economic consequences are taking up any kind of job to look after the child since she could not finish her education.
