Orientation Programme for Public Health Nurses

Action Health Incorporated (AHI) from October 8 – 12, 2007 organized a five-day orientation programme for students of The School of Public Health, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The training, which took place at the AHI training hall, aimed at ensuring that students broadened their knowledge on adolescent reproductive and sexual health, knew the processes involved in providing health services for adolescents, and acquire skills for communicating with young people.

It also afforded the student the opportunity to acquire more knowledge on human sexuality and the process of growth and development in young people. Also included in the programme was a session on values clarification meant to assess the students; attitude such controversial issues which impact greatly on the growth and well-being of young people. A total of fifteen students took part In the training.

The School of Public Health is a post-basic institution for healthcare workers like nurses, midwives, and community health officers. Part of the requirements for securing a degree from this institution is an orientation programme on human sexuality and adolescent-friendly health services.
